Abstract

Tra Vinh which is a coastal province of the Mekong Delta region is forecasted to be one of the localities heavily affected by climate change and sea level rise. Based on the Vietnam Climate change and sea level rise scenarios, published in 2016, the study impacts of climate change and sea level rise on 17 garrisons belong to Tra Vinh province Military Headquarter in which focusing on 2 scenarios for greenhouse gas emissions: RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. The results achieved that the average temperature at studied units was from 27.4oC to 27.6oC; The average annual rainfall is from 1,760 mm to 1,980 mm. Although the garrisons are not flooded due to sea level rise, some areas are likely to be inundated by heavy rain. Rising sea levels make the process of saline intrusion more intense, it is forecast that by 2030, there will be 16/17 garrisons affected by saline intrusion, the coastal areas affected mostly by salinity reaches from 18‰ to 30‰.
